Trogons - Group Overview
Trogons are medium-sized forest birds belonging to the family Trogonidae. They are characterised by short necks, large heads, strong bills, and long tails, with many species showing striking colour contrasts.
Members of this family inhabit tropical and subtropical forests, where they spend much of their time perched quietly in the mid to upper canopy. They feed primarily on insects and fruits, often remaining motionless for long periods before making short flights to capture prey.
In the Indian subcontinent, trogons are associated mainly with dense evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. They are generally solitary or seen in pairs and are known for their calm behaviour and preference for shaded forest interiors.
