Tailorbirds - Family Overview

Tailorbirds are small passerine birds belonging to the family Cisticolidae. They are best known for their distinctive nesting behaviour, in which leaves are stitched together using plant fibres or spider silk to form a concealed nest.

Members of this group are typically found in gardens, scrub, forest edges, and secondary woodland. They feed mainly on insects and other small invertebrates, often foraging actively in low vegetation.

In the Indian subcontinent, tailorbirds are common residents across a wide range of habitats, including urban and rural landscapes. They are frequently detected by their sharp calls and restless movements rather than prolonged views.
