Starlings – Group Overview

Starlings are medium-sized passerine birds known for their adaptability, social behaviour, and often glossy or contrasting plumage. They occupy a wide range of habitats, including open countryside, farmland, wetlands, and urban environments.

Starlings belong to the family Sturnidae, which also includes mynas. Many species are highly gregarious, frequently forming flocks, especially outside the breeding season. Their strong legs and direct flight make them well suited to foraging both on the ground and in trees.

The diet of starlings is varied and includes insects, fruits, seeds, and other small food items. This flexibility has allowed several species to thrive in changing landscapes and coexist closely with human activity.

This section features photographs of starlings documented across different regions, highlighting variation in plumage, behaviour, and habitat use among species.
