Robins - Group Overview
Robins are small to medium-sized passerine birds known for their upright posture, alert behaviour, and often melodious songs. In South Asia, the birds commonly referred to as robins belong to the Old World flycatcher family, Muscicapidae.
These birds are typically ground-feeding insectivores, frequently seen hopping on open patches, forest floors, garden edges, and rocky terrain. Their contrasting plumage patterns and expressive movements make them among the most recognisable birds in urban and semi-natural landscapes.
Species such as the Oriental Magpie-robin and Indian Robin are widespread across the Indian subcontinent, occupying habitats ranging from dense woodland edges to city parks and scrubland. They are often territorial and vocal, especially during the breeding season.
This section showcases robin species photographed in their natural habitats, highlighting behaviour such as foraging, singing, and perching. All images are documented with accurate species identification and location details wherever available.
