Parrots - Group Overview
Parrots are medium-sized birds belonging to the order Psittaciformes, characterised by strong, curved bills, zygodactyl feet, and an upright stance. They are well adapted for climbing and handling food using both the bill and feet.
Members of this group inhabit forests, woodland, scrub, and cultivated landscapes. Their diet typically includes fruits, seeds, nuts, flowers, and buds, with feeding behaviour varying by habitat and season.
In the Indian subcontinent, parrots outside the parakeet group are represented primarily by the hanging parrots. These birds are associated with forested habitats and differ from parakeets in size, structure, and behaviour.
