Parakeets – Group Overview

Parakeets are medium-sized parrots known for their bright green plumage, long tails, and loud, distinctive calls. They are commonly found in forests, woodlands, agricultural areas, and urban environments, often forming noisy flocks.

Parakeets belong to the family Psittaculidae. They are intelligent, social birds that feed mainly on fruits, seeds, buds, and flowers, and are frequently observed foraging in trees or flying swiftly between feeding sites.

Many parakeet species adapt well to human-modified landscapes, nesting in tree cavities, buildings, and other structures. Their strong flight and conspicuous behaviour make them among the most familiar parrots across much of their range.

This section features photographs of parakeets documented across different habitats, highlighting variation in size, plumage, and behaviour among species.
