Minivets – Group Overview
Minivets are small to medium-sized passerine birds known for their striking red, orange, or yellow plumage contrasted with black or grey. They are typically found in forest canopies, woodland edges, and well-wooded landscapes, often moving actively through the treetops.
Minivets belong to the family Campephagidae, which also includes cuckooshrikes. They primarily feed on insects, foraging in foliage and making short sallies to capture prey in mid-air.
Many minivet species are social outside the breeding season and may be observed in pairs or small flocks, sometimes joining mixed-species feeding parties. Their vivid colours and preference for higher canopy levels make them conspicuous yet often overlooked birds.
This section features photographs of minivets documented across forested habitats, highlighting variation in plumage, sexual dimorphism, and foraging behaviour among species.
