Leafbirds – Group Overview

Leafbirds are brightly coloured passerine birds closely associated with forest canopies and well-wooded habitats. Their vivid green plumage provides excellent camouflage among foliage, often making them difficult to spot despite their colours.

Leafbirds belong to the family Chloropseidae. They feed on a mixed diet of fruits, nectar, and insects, frequently moving actively through flowering and fruiting trees while foraging.

These birds are known for their clear, whistling calls and, in some species, impressive vocal mimicry. Leafbirds are primarily arboreal and are strong indicators of healthy, tree-rich environments.

This section features photographs of leafbirds documented across forested landscapes, highlighting variation in plumage, behaviour, and canopy-dwelling habits among species.
