Hoopoes
Hoopoes are medium-sized birds belonging to the family Upupidae. They are characterised by a long, slender, down-curved bill, broad rounded wings, and a prominent erectile crest.
Members of this family are typically found in open woodland, grassland, agricultural areas, and semi-arid landscapes. They forage mainly on the ground, feeding on insects and other small invertebrates obtained from soil and leaf litter.
In the Indian subcontinent, hoopoes are widespread and occur across a variety of habitats from plains to foothills. They are usually seen singly or in pairs and are often detected by their distinctive calls and undulating flight.
