Flowerpecker - Family Overview
Flowerpeckers are very small passerine birds belonging to the family Dicaeidae. They are characterised by short bills, compact bodies, and rapid, darting movements while foraging.
Members of this family inhabit forest, woodland, scrub, gardens, and wooded edges. Their diet consists mainly of fruits, especially mistletoe berries, supplemented by nectar and small insects.
In the Indian subcontinent, flowerpeckers are widespread residents across a variety of habitats, from lowland forests to hill regions. They are usually seen singly or in pairs and are often detected by their high-pitched calls rather than prolonged views.
