Eagles – Group Overview
Eagles are large birds of prey known for their powerful build, broad wings, and commanding flight. They are typically associated with open landscapes, forests, mountains, and wetlands, where they hunt or soar high on thermals.
Eagles belong to the family Accipitridae, which also includes hawks, kites, and harriers. They are apex or near-apex predators, feeding on a wide range of prey such as mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish, depending on the species.
Many eagle species are long-lived and territorial, often forming stable pair bonds and using large stick nests that may be reused for many years. Their presence is widely regarded as an indicator of healthy ecosystems.
This section features photographs of eagles documented across diverse habitats, highlighting variation in size, plumage, hunting behaviour, and flight styles among species.
