Doves – Group Overview
Doves are medium-sized birds characterised by their gentle appearance, soft plumage, and typically calm behaviour. They are found across a wide range of habitats including forests, open countryside, agricultural areas, and urban environments.
Doves belong to the family Columbidae, which also includes pigeons. They generally feed on seeds, grains, and fruits, foraging on the ground or in low vegetation. Their strong flight and distinctive wing claps are familiar features of many species.
Many dove species form long-term pair bonds and are known for their repetitive, soothing calls. Their adaptability has allowed several species to coexist closely with humans and expand their range into towns and cities.
This section features photographs of doves documented across different habitats, highlighting variation in plumage, behaviour, and habitat preference among species.
