Cuckooshrikes - Family Overview

Cuckooshrikes are medium-sized passerine birds belonging to the family Campephagidae. They are characterised by slender bodies, long wings, and a generally smooth, even plumage, often in shades of grey, black, or muted colour tones.

Members of this family inhabit forest, woodland, forest edges, and open wooded landscapes. They feed mainly on insects and other small invertebrates, which are captured by gleaning foliage or making short aerial sallies.

In the Indian subcontinent, cuckooshrikes are widespread across a variety of habitats from lowland forests to hill regions. They are usually observed singly or in pairs and often perch prominently while scanning for prey.
